I see you in flashes, in short glimpses
the spark, and the shine
For seconds I see what’s mine
but then you’re gone
After miles and miles
of chasing pines
evergreens ever long
stretching as far as I can see
these depressing deciduous trees.
You’re lost in the woods
cradled by fallen leaves
scared and alone
but determined to hide.
Let me in or let me go,
you won’t say a thing
not a word to stop my leaving.
It’s just the wind and the rain
the sap and strain.
